Virtual Assistant working remotely on laptop giving suggestion on best burnout practices to stay engaged in work

Running a business is like raising a baby. It takes time, nurturing, patience (so much patience), help, strategy…this list could go on forever. Prioritizing tasks, your health, and time is so important to enjoy the process. Here are 5 ways to support your business so you don’t burnout.

1. Map Out Your Week

Have you ever walked around the grocery store without a list? Do you end up missing something you need for a meal or end up buying a few things that were totally impulse and unnecessary?

Let me change the question now…Have you ever started off your work week without a plan? Did you find yourself missing things or working on tasks that weren’t a priority?

That feeling of disorder and inadequacy and burnout starts to seep in when we consistently go on without a plan. Set aside 30 minutes near the end of your week or the weekend to map out your week (or weeks!) ahead.

Create a plan that shows upcoming meetings, deadlines, communication time and dedicated work time. Plan out when you will do what. That way, your mindset is ready to go the second you sit down to work.

2. Communication

Whether you are a solopreneur, a small business owner, or have a larger business- we all communicate with someone in our business. This could be clients, potential customers, our online audience, team members, etc.

Ensure you are communicating openly with these people. Business is a two-way street and trust me, people will know if there is a roadblock! Keeping your business community in the loop consistently avoids the long, awkward gaps between you and clients and those long burnout meetings with team members.

3. Movement

Sitting at a desk all day is not healthy. Planning out small segments of movement in your day will increase your work performance and mental health. Set a timer or plan that after each task you stand to stretch, take a walk, do some squats, or whatever suits you! Your body and mind will thank you with some endorphins 🙂

4. Nutrition

And if we are fueling our body with movement, let’s take it one step further. Let’s start with the basics- feed yourself. Don’t skip a meal trying to get client work done (the crust from your kids’ sandwich does not count) because you will burn out. Make a smoothie, a quick whole grain sandwich, heck- even warm up a bowl of leftovers from the night before. Make taking care of yourself a priority as a business owner.

5. Support

It takes a village, right? That goes for life, parenting, and guess what…your business too! We can’t do it all, eventually, the hats will start to fall off and the feeling of burnout will take over. Take a deep look into your daily work (personal and professional). What kind you hand off to someone else? Is laundry mountain killing your home vibe? Hire a laundry service. Keeping up with your blogs, SEO, and newsletters?
